In a Montessori Home by Sarah Moudry is another of my favourite Montessori books for new or first time parents. It is a good introduction to the prepared home environment. I have recently revisited this book in preparing our home for our next child.
I recommend this book because it
- contains lots of photographs of real homes
- is well categorised into age groups and topics of sleeping, dressing, eating, playing and outdoors
- is simple and easy to follow
- doesn't assume any previous Montessori knowledge
- is short and brief
I do wish the photography was of a higher standard. It may have raised the price but would have finished the book nicely.
Also, the book is produced in America, meaning that most if not all of the suppliers listed are in the United States.
What I like most about the book is the discussion on the key principles of
- Order
- Consistency
- Independence
- Safety
These are the principles that are at the forefront of my mind when parenting. Moudry explains them really simply and really well.
