Sweeping
Sweeping is a popular activity at our house. Caspar sweeps not to clean the floor but because he enjoys it, he repeats it so he can master it. Sweeping for a young child requires a lot of coordination and concentration.
In order to make his sweeping more productive, today I taped a square on the floor. Taping a square on the floor is mentioned in several books that I own. I don't know why I didn't do it sooner.
The aim is for the child to sweep all the crumbs, hair etc on the floor into the square where they can they use a dustpan to pick it up. The square gives them a target, a consistent place to sweep to.
Now I can say, yes, it works! Today's sweeping activities actually resulted in some crumbs being swept into the square, picked up and in the bin. Now, if only I could get him to cook dinner...
